‘Grace brought into my life, as she brought into yours, a soft, warm light every time I saw her, and every time I saw her was a holiday of its own.’ James Stewart about Grace Kelly
I really hope I can make a difference, even in the smallest way. I am looking forward to helping as much as I can. ~ Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge
I often find myself drawn towards elegant, timeless clothing of the past and I decided to create a royalty inspired look book featuring outfits which embody the style of Princess Grace of Monaco and the Duchess of Cambridge.
Although she made her mark as an Old Hollywood icon, Grace Kelly soon exchanged the alluring flash-bulb lights and glamour of the silver screen for the regal principality of Monaco, when she became its princess on the 18th April 1956. Grace understood how to hold and present herself in the garments she wore. They never overpowered or wore her and with a childhood of ballet training by her side, Grace was equipped with the posture and elegance which helped her whilst wearing pieces by designers like Helen Rose and Christian Dior. For my Grace inspired looks, I decided to look at some of my favourite photographs of her outfits and then tried my best to re-create outfits with pieces which I already own…
My favourite look from the video which I re-styled is inspired by a photograph of Grace clothed in a pink, satin bow detail gown with a white fur cape.
To re-imagine this look for the modern-day, I decided to pair my pink Pretty Dress Co. Tilly Off the Shoulder Bow dress with a white faux fur cape.
Introducing the ‘Tilly’ Off The Shoulder Bow Prom Dress.
An exquisite crepe fabric dress, with a draped neckline frames the décolletage area and is highlighted by two shoulder bows and a full flowing skirt.
To mirror Grace’s look, I added my white faux fur ribbon capelet (similar)
Grace’s Hollywood style is characterised by elegant couture inspired ball gowns made from tulle, satin or chiffon and embellished with delicate floral embroidery, finished off with a statement piece of jewellery. Many of Grace’s on-screen looks are simple but evoke timeless elegance. Edith Head and Helen Rose often clothed Grace in a palette of pale blues, soft pinks and monochromatic colour schemes. Grace’s off-screen attire was paired back and she was often photographed in a high-waisted pair of trousers and elegant shirt.
For one of Grace’s more “paired-down”, relaxed looks, I drew inspiration from her delicate green and floral, 1950s dress which she wears with a set of pearls. I don’t currently have a green dress in my collection but I knew that I had a red, green and pink rose dress which would perfectly emulate the style and silhouette! (similar)
For transitioning to modernity, I look to Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge for an effortlessly chic and polished look. Catherine is always clothed in the most elegant pieces, with minimal details but they’re always well-kept, tailored and stylish.
I decided to take inspiration from her blue outfits – she’s often clothed in icy, powder blues which always look elegant. The look I took my inspiration from was one of Catherine’s signature powder blue coats! I realised I had a similar one in my wardrobe and so I couldn’t resist wearing it for the lookbook. Underneath, I wore my Ted Baker powder blue bow-detail dress (similar), which I thought complimented the coat (similar) perfectly.
For another Catherine inspired look, I took inspiration from her delicate pink tweed jacket (similar) and white dress look! I think this is so elegant and its probably my favourite which I’ve created.

My darling Evie thank you so much!! I adore Catherine’s powder blue palette also, I loved to just go through my wardrobe and try to piece items together which reminded me of them both – if only I could have some of their actual pieces 🌸
